Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently in development. If anything, it is more likely that Team Cherry is trying to play its cards right, and is taking its time to deliver the game in the best possible state. With Silksong, there are many players waiting to play from day one, and this supposes a greater risk as Hollow Knight: Silksong needs to live up to the audience's expectations.Īll in all, it does not seem like Silksong is being cancelled. When Hollow Knight was released in 2017, there were fewer fans jumping on immediately, which that Team Cherry had a chance to patch any bugs that emerged before the game reached a larger audience. However, this means that the scope of Silksong probably continues to increase, making it even harder for the small team to finish soon.įurthermore, both the success of Hollow Knight and the anticipation for Silksong means Team Cherry has a huge responsibility to deliver a great game. Theres no option to pre-order it, the game isnt out, and nothing exists to suggest that Team Cherry would release it in a broken or unfinished state. On one hand, Silksong could potentially be even better than Hollow Knight. I dont know what this has to do with the Silksong forums, though. Now, thanks to the success of that first title, the development of Silksong is not subject to the same budgetary restrictions.Īs a result of Team Cherry’s freedom, the Australian team likely did not have to constrain its creativity, which is both good and bad news for fans of Hollow Knight. In order to release its first game, Team Cherry had to crowdfund through Kickstarter in order to finish the game. For one, the development process of Hollow Knight: Silksong is considerably different than it was when Team Cherry was working on Hollow Knight. although surely another Nintendo Direct is happening sometime this month. There are many potential reasons for the lack of a release date for Silksong. Until then, I'm going to do my best to stop expecting to see Silksong again anytime soon. I want to be surprised again and again, just like I was in the first game, as I kept stumbling into new areas.Īs with Elden Ring's 2021 Summer Game Fest appearance, I think Silksong will be worth the wait when it does re-emerge. The playable demo drew crowds throughout all 3 days of the event and offered a sneak peek at two areas from the game: The Moss Grotto, a lush, damp area and the Deep Docks, a groaning structure atop (and within) a lake of lava. I want Silksong to preserve the same mystery that I felt in Hollow Knight: I really don't want to know how big the world will be or what kind of enemies I'll run into. E3 just happened in LA and Hollow Knight: Silksong was on the floor thanks to Nintendo. When Silksong does come out, I expect it'll make a bigger splash than a Metroid sequel that was 20 years in the making.īut when will that be? Agonizing as the wait is, I'm okay with Team Cherry working away without the distractions of maintaining a development blog or tweeting out art or screenshots every few weeks. Metroid Dread kicked up a lot of comparisons, too, and I don't think it's too controversial to say that Hollow Knight's combat, art and level design are a cut above. I see a discussion thread from someone new playing it for the first time, and the takeaway is usually: I heard Hollow Knight was good, but I didn't think it would be this good. Since 2019, while Team Cherry has been hard at work on a sequel, Hollow Knight's prestige has only continued to grow. We're closing in on the same amount of time Elden Ring spent in silence. Since then, nothing-a year and a half without a scrap of new information. Then it was quiet for a year, until our sister publication Edge magazine ran a cover feature on Silksong in December 2020. It's understandable: Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced in February 2019 and shown a couple times that year. That sure feels like the Elden Ring subreddit after yet another disappointment, though there aren't quite as many poor souls posting in pain.
